THESSALONIKI

“No one is left without a homeland, as long as Thessaloniki exists”.

(Nikos Chumnos, Byzantine official and scholar of the 14th century)

Thessaloniki is the largest urban centre in Northern Greece. It is located in the fertile land that grows around the rivers Axios, French and Loudia, the lakes Koroneia and Volvi, as well as the seas of Thermaikos and Strymonikos Gulf.

It has been inhabited since prehistoric times and there are traces of life in the area from that time. However, the modern element of the city blends harmoniously with its history, as reflected in the archaeological sites, Byzantine churches and interesting monuments of different periods that are preserved in the city today in a rare and charming coexistence and reflect in the most emphatic way this timeless multicultural and cosmopolitan character of the city.

The city is full of life at all hours of the day, and especially at night it takes on a different colour.
