President’s address
Dear colleagues and friends,
Yet once, I have the honor to invite you on behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 32nd Panhellenic Congress of Paediatric Surgery with International Participation, to attend the forthcoming Congress of our Association, which will be held in Athens, October 3-6, 2019. Thanks to the kind offer of the Athens Medical Center Group, the scientific sessions of the most important event, organized every 2 years by the Greek Association of Paediatric Surgeons, will take place in the comfortable and fully equipped amphitheater of the Group in Kefalari, Kifissia.
Among the main topics of the 32nd Congress, “child abuse” is notable. “The battered child”, a contemporary issue that is escalating, and often frustrates the community and scientific society. The comprehensive analysis of this issue will include lectures and round tables, with many experts on the field. Other important topics covered, will be Anorectal Malformations and Hirschsprung’s Disease, with lectures and round tables covered by some of the most distinguished experts, such as Prof. Marc Levitt (Ohio State University, USA), Prof. Stuart Hosie (Munich, Germany), and Prof. Timothy Lee (Houston, Texas). The Organizing Committee invites all colleagues to join the pre-congress Colorectal Surgery Course and Workshop, which will include lectures and interactive real-time telecasting of anorectal malformations’ repair and operations for Hirschsprung’s Disease, with commentaries by our guests.
The conjoined Colorectal Nursing Course, from specialized nurses working with Prof. Levitt at the Center for Colorectal and Pelvic Reconstruction, Nationwide Children’s Hospital (Columbus, OH, USA), will give our nurses the opportunity to have an insight in Colorectal Nursing, a field hardly known in our country.
As expected, there will be far more topics discussed in the 32nd Congress. There are free announcements, lectures and round tables covering all fields of Paediatric Surgery, especially serious and ambivalent neonatal, paediatric and adolescent issues, for which there are different approaches.
You should also include in your agenda other sessions, such as the lecture about bullying, from Prof. George T. Pavlidis in the opening ceremony, and the painting exhibition of the artist who created the theme graphic for the Congress.
There are going to be many updates in our webpage. Stay updated in www.gaps.gr/congress2019/ . We invite you all to participate actively.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee
